While elections are taking place today in other communities across the region, Hopkinton is not holding a municipal or state election.
Town Clerk Connor Degan explained that town municipal elections are held in the spring, while state elections occur only during even-numbered years. “We just don’t have anything for the odd-numbered years unless there’s a special election,” Degan said.
He attributed local confusion, which included calls from prospective poll workers, to regional and national media coverage of other races. He confirmed this election cycle “won’t impact Hopkinton at all.”
Separately, Hopkinton public schools are closed today for a professional development day.
In local sports, the Hopkinton High School boys’ soccer team defeated Methuen in the opening round of the Division 1 state tournament on Monday. Recent real estate transactions in town include the sale of eight properties, one of which sold for $2.7 million. Additionally, a new business column explores the benefits of direct booking for vacation rental operators.
Upcoming public meetings tonight include the Select Board at 6 p.m. and the Conservation Commission at 7 p.m. The Hopkinton Women’s Club will hold its next monthly meeting on November 10 at the Hopkinton Public Library.
