The draw for the round of 16 of the Champions League was played by Paris Saint-Germain against Real Madrid, after the first canceled draw that referred to the confrontation with Manchester United.
Ramos, who moved last summer to the French capital team after 16 years in the Royal Club, said: “I would have preferred not to play that match (against Real Madrid), but returning to the Bernabeu makes me happy. I was not able to say goodbye to the stadium because of Corona.”
“I wanted to face another team because you know the love I have for Real Madrid,” he added in a press statement, Monday, quoted by the Spanish sports newspaper, Marca.
But he explained: “Now it’s my turn to defend Paris Saint-Germain, and I will do my best to help him move forward. It is the team that bet on me. I will fight to the death for it.”
Since the beginning of the season, 35-year-old Ramos has appeared once in a Saint-Germain shirt due to injuries, even press reports indicated that the French club is considering dispensing with him.
However, he said: “Ramos will be there. The family has adapted really well (in Paris). I’m smiling again and I want to compete again.”
The Spanish defender praised the level of Real Madrid now, and mentioned by name Vinicius Junior, who has been providing a distinguished level since the beginning of the season.
“Vinicius was promising, but now he is a reality,” Ramos said. “I was glad I spoke to him.”
