The American Democratic parliamentarian of Palestinian origin, Rashida Talib, appeared in traditional Palestinian dress and is swearing in for the second time in the US House of Representatives.
“My parents came from Palestine for a better life in the United States, and at the age of ten, my father managed to get a job at Ford Motor Company and his education was for fourth grade only,” Tlaib wrote on Twitter and Facebook.
She indicated that her father married her mother, who left school to help support her family.
And she continued: “I am one of the first Muslim women and the first Palestinian (in the American House of Representatives), and I wanted to honor them by wearing an embroidered Palestinian dress.”
Tlaib, who won the Michigan elections, confirmed that despite the huge money given to her rivals by the Jewish lobby and the extreme right, she does not take the honor of being in the US House of Representatives for granted, and pledged to work hard for the voters in District 13 in the state. “I will never back down,” she said.
