Cancun, QR. During the morning conference yesterday, January 12, the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, reported that work will soon start on the new section of Section 5 of the Mayan Train, after agreements have been reached with hoteliers, ejidatarios and private owners to acquire land to make way for the recent right of way.
“Regarding the layout of Section 5 south, it suffered a variation, let’s say that it was agreed upon with the inhabitants, investors in the area. The modification was proposed and Fonatur (National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism) has already defined the line; progress is being made in the release of the right of way. We understand that the construction companies are going to speed up the construction work on the sections next month,” the official explained.
The secretary specified that they are yet to define the start-up date, but it will be as soon as possible. “There is an approach for January 14 so that they can already be physically working on Section 5 south of the Mayan Train; it is being reviewed whether it starts on the 14th or the 17th. It is going well, and now surely the presence of Javier May (new director of Fonatur) in the area will make them comply with the commitments in a timely manner”.
Consent
Last week, Antonio Chaves, president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association, assured that at least 90% of businessmen have spoken out in favor of selling a portion of their land for the right of way that Fonatur needs now. that the train will no longer run to the center of highway 307, but to one side, on the side of the high-tension lines of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
He applauded the decision of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for working together with the hoteliers and businessmen of the destination to look for a new line of the Mayan Train that has the least damage during the construction process, especially to road traffic that may cause the thousands of tourists and workers who use this important highway on a daily basis.
“The new layout has already been presented to us and we are working on small modifications agreed between Fonatur and the Riviera Maya and Tulum hotel associations. We are in the best position to continue the dialogue for the sake of connectivity that will benefit the development and growth of tourism in the Mexican Caribbean. If things are going well for us in Quintana Roo, Mexico is doing well in economic and tourist matters,” he pointed out.
Antecedent
On January 5, López Obrador announced a new change of route for Section 5 of the Mayan Train as it passes through the Rivera Maya.
“The Secretary of the Interior has to help us there in Quintana Roo, and I take this opportunity to send a message to the hoteliers of the Rivera Maya, to help us, because a new line of the Mayan Train is being defined and I hope they cooperate,” he deepened.
“It does not affect their land, that is, the part they have built is going to make a line on the backs of their land, that is, it is not on the shore of the beach, but in the back, it is a new line. ”, commented the president.
To detail
Regarding these statements, Antonio Chaves revealed that the new route of the Mayan Train announced by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will be along the high-voltage lines of the CFE, parallel to highway 307, in the section that goes from Tulum to Playa. del Carmen (Section 5 south).
However, the road will remain in its current layout at the height of Playa del Carmen, on a second floor, next to the overpasses that cross the urban sprawl, returning again to the center of the road for around 8 kilometers in the direction of Cancun, where in fact the works already have a significant degree of progress.
The hoteliers, he said, “we are very ready” to collaborate with the federal government, after the willingness to dialogue by the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism, after knowing the circulars sent about two months ago by the Secretariat of Agrarian Development, Territorial and Urbano (Sedatu), in which it was announced that the businessmen had to sell a portion of their land at the foot of the highway to expand the rights of way, or else they would be expropriated.
“We received some letters from Sedatu, in terms that we consider incorrect, to put it in some way, where they announced that we had to sell part of the entrance of our hotels or that we would be expropriated,” he said.
“This work table is working very well, they have understood very well the concerns of the sector. That was transmitted to the president and what we are doing is that in the new line of the Mayan Train, land on the continental part is affected, that is, on the other side of the road,” said the hotel businessman.
