- Dominik Szoboszlai scored a last-minute winner to send Hungary to the Euros
- Red Bull Salzburg star has five assists this season and his deal expires in 2022
- Real Madrid’s chief scout Juni Calafat sees him as a signing with room to grow
- But Madrid face competition from both Arsenal and AC Milan for his services
Real Madrid have joined the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai after the midfielder’s last-gasp incredible solo goal took Hungary to the European Championships on Thursday night.
Szoboszlai scored a 92nd minute winner to defeat Iceland 2-1 in their crunch Euro qualifying play-off, picking the ball up inside his own half, surging past several defenders and smashing home a shot from outside the box.
Real Madrid and chief scout Juni Calafat have pursued young, hungry players with potential to grow in recent years, as typified by the signings of Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo and Luka Jovic rather than galacticos in the prime of their career.

And AS have reported Szoboszlai, who turned 20 last month and is rated at £23million, is the latest prodigious young talent on the European giant’s shopping list.
Szoboszlai has consistently impressed for Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, helping them to a league and cup double in each of the last two years and winning the Austrian Bundesliga player of the year award last campaign.
His sparkling form has continued this season, with four goals in five games in Europe, including one against Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in Champions League Group A, which also contains Bayern Munich.
Domestically, he leads the league’s assist charts with five already this season with an average of more than one every 90 minutes.
On the international stage, he appears to have nailed down a spot in Hungary’s midfield after demonstrating his penchant for spectacular goals, including Thursday’s stunner to break Icelandic hearts.
Sportsmail reported last week that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were interested in signing the midfielder to add creativity after missing out on Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is also interested in the 20-year-old Hungary midfielder
But the Gunners face competition from AC Milan, RB Leipzig and now Los Blancos.
Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane – himself a gifted attacking midfielder in his playing days – has seen James Rodriguez leave, with the club also listening to offers for Isco, with Szoboszlai lined up as a potential replacement.
If the Hungarian moved to the Spanish capital, he would retread the path of illustrious compatriot Ferenc Puskas, who scored an astonishing 242 goals in 262 games for Real Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane’s side will reportedly listen to offers for fellow attacking midfielder Isco
