On Wednesday, Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz issued urgent orders to the Water Authority to immediately raise its readiness and readiness for any expected Iranian cyber attack.
The Hebrew “Ynet” website reported today that Israel is preparing for a massive cyber attack that Iran is expected to launch, during which it will try to poison drinking water by increasing the quantities of chlorine allocated to water purification, which is poured into water bodies through electronic systems.
The website said that based on information it received, the water systems in Israel are not protected as required against any Iranian cyber attack.
“Ynet” website stated that during an emergency meeting in the office of Minister of Energy and Water Yuval Steinitz, with the participation of officials in charge of water and energy systems and those responsible for preparing for electronic attacks with all systems, it became clear that the drinking water systems in Israel are not sufficiently protected from electronic attacks.
The officials emphasized that Israel is still vulnerable to a new attack and that the Iranians are “pursuing it”, especially in the field of infrastructure.
It was told to the attendees at the meeting that the talk was about a failure that could harm the security of Israel, and if any electronic war broke out, the responsibility for that would be borne by the heads of these regimes.
Last week, water systems in the US state of Florida were subjected to a cyber attack that was aimed at poisoning drinking water, and Israeli water systems were subjected to electronic attacks in April 2020, and during the failed attempt, the level of chlorine was raised and poisoned residents, and the Israeli authorities attributed the attack to Iranian parties.
