Media reports reported that the management of Al Hilal Club, champion of the Saudi Football League, is considering terminating the contract of its Brazilian striker Neymar da Silva during the winter transfer period, due to the injuries he has suffered since joining the team.
Neymar participated in only 7 matches with Al Hilal, scoring once and providing 3 assists, and his contract with the Saudi club extends until June 2025.
This comes after the club’s decision to keep Brazilian left-back Renan Lodi registered in the Saudi League last September.
It was expected that Lodi would be replaced by Neymar, but in the end this replacement did not happen after his brilliance with Al Hilal.
Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade wrote on the UOL Esporte website that “Al Hilal Club is considering terminating Neymar’s contract by mutual consent next January, due to his physical condition.”
He added, “Al-Hilal intended to get rid of Lodi last summer, but the club’s goal now is Neymar’s departure due to his physical condition and the lack of a place for him in the team.”
He explained that Neymar’s departure from Al Hilal means that he is close to returning to his Brazilian club, Santos, which also wants him to return.
A source at Al Hilal Club confirmed that Neymar is not on Jorge Jesus’ list, which is competing in the Saudi Professional League.
The Brazilian winger does not participate with Al Hilal in the Saudi League because he is not registered in the local list, and he was limited to participating against Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates last month in the continental championship before his injury renewed during the confrontation with the Iranian team in midweek.
Absence again
Al-Hilal announced on Wednesday that Neymar suffered a tear in his posterior muscle during the Iranian Esteghlal Tehran match in the Asian Champions League, leaving him absent for at least one month.
Al-Hilal said on the
Neymar (32 years old) returned from a serious injury, tearing the cruciate ligament in the knee, which kept him out of Al Hilal for a year, but he left half an hour after his participation from the bench against Esteghlal in the AFC Elite Champions League, in coach Jesus’ team’s 3-0 win on Monday.
Neymar suffered a serious injury during the match against Uruguay in November 2023, in the fourth round of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
