Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics in Israel revealed that the death toll from the Corona epidemic in Israel may be much higher than the announced figures, according to what was published by the “Jerusalem Post” newspaper.
The head of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Professor Jonathan Halevy, said that they are starting to get a clearer picture of the effects of the epidemic after approaching a year since the virus entered Israel.
Halevy confirmed in an interview with “The Jerusalem Post” that citizens have become more reluctant to enter emergency rooms, even if they need to, due to fear of getting Corona infection, indicating that some cases of strokes or other heart diseases require medical intervention during the first hours. Injury and delay in reaching emergency departments may exacerbate these cases.
He pointed out that hospitals apply strict rules to separate Covid-19 patients from the rest of normal patients, adding: “There is a greater chance of infection in a crowded supermarket compared to a hospital.”
