(Trends Wide Español) — Judge Sonia Sotomayor denied a request by a group of New York City teachers to block the city’s immunization mandate for public school employees while the appeal process unfolds.
A federal appeals court initially suspended the mandate, but lifted that order. Sotomayor has jurisdiction over that lower court.
A group of public school teachers in New York asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to block New York City’s vaccination mandate that goes into effect today.
In court documents, attorneys for the teachers say New York City, as well as the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, have placed an “unconstitutional burden” on public school teachers.
