An earthquake struck Tajikistan on Friday, and was felt by residents of Pakistan and northern India, prompting many residents to flee from their homes, while there were no reports of casualties or serious damage.
The US Geological Survey stated, “The strength of the quake reached 5.9 degrees and its epicenter was 35 km west of the city of Marghab in Tajikistan, Central Asia.”
For its part, the Tajik Ministry of Emergencies announced that “the epicenter of the quake is located 420 kilometers east of the capital Dushanbe, close to the border with China.”
Residents of the capital, Dushanbe, felt the tremor, but its epicenter was in a sparsely populated area.
In turn, the Indian Meteorological Department indicated, “cracks have been reported in some houses in northern Kashmir, and a witness reported the collapse of a wall near the city of Amritsar in northern India, without any casualties reported.”
