Enrique SolorzanoCEO of Sura Asset Management passed away this afternoon at the age of 60, a victim of cancer. Enrique That, As his friends told him, he will be remembered as one of the great promoters of green finance in Mexico and also as a promoter of a variety of projects focused on financial education.
Enrique Solórzano, who was an economist graduated from the Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) already had 34 years of experience in the Mexican financial sector. He was one of the most experienced institutional portfolio managers in our country.
Enrique was passionate about developing markets, being an atypical case of starting as an analyst, becoming trader to be one of the portfolio manager most important in the country. He had a 360-degree view of all asset classes: fixed income, derivatives, equities and alternative instruments.
He always spoke of diversification “you don’t have to invest in a single instrument, you have to know how to diversify our heritage, in order to protect it, make it grow and multiply it”.
An enthusiast of analysis, of the development of business models in all the financial institutions in which he participated: BBV-Probursa in 1985 where he managed to become Treasurer, Bankers Trust in 1996 as treasurer, until 1998. In that same year, Enrique Solórzano founded Valorum Sociedad Operadora de Sociedades de Inversión, an asset management entity, where he was a partner and held the position of CIO. Later, in 2000, he joined Bank of America Asset Management Mexico as the CEO until 2006. Solórzano was the chief information officer of Santander’s retirement fund until it was sold to ING Group in 2007.
Since May 2018 Enrique became the CEO of SURA Asset Management Mexico. Within his career, his position as general director of Afore SURA stands out. He was responsible for the Afore SURA business model and the management of institutional and private banking portfolios.
In recent years, Enrique Solórzano was a promoter of green finance and a promoter of labeled bonds, he was the Co-president and one of the founders of the Green Finance Advisory Council.
Enrique Solórzano was a charismatic, kind and well-liked man in the financial sector. On The Economist we had the opportunity to interview him on several occasions and he always showed kindness and respect for the work of this publishing house. Rest in peace.
