Earlier in the day, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told Britain, France and Germany that the United States is ready to negotiate with Iran on the return of the two countries to abide by the nuclear agreement signed in 2015, which aims to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.
Reuters also quoted a French diplomatic source as saying that the United States sent messages about its willingness to negotiate with Iran during the upcoming meeting of the “5 + 1” group.
Iran began violating the terms of the agreement in 2019 in response to the US withdrawal from it during the era of former US President Donald Trump, who accused the Islamic Republic of supporting terrorism, seeking to obtain a nuclear weapon and imposing painful sanctions on the country, while Israel welcomed these measures.
Despite broad expectations that the two sides will return to the deal, the Iranian authorities and the Biden administration are at odds over who should act first to salvage the deal.
