Commenting on the Brexit negotiations, two diplomatic sources said that the bloc is ready to continue negotiations with Britain even after the end of the year.
“Progress has been made … most of the issues are either folded in principle or are about to be agreed upon,” a European Union diplomat said in a statement to Reuters on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, the European Union is not moving enough yet to conclude the fishing agreement,” he added.
The diplomat, who requested anonymity, said that the European Union negotiators were “in a last ditch effort” to seal the deal.
He added, “The Union will not close its door to the United Kingdom and will remain ready to negotiate even after the first of January 2021.”
A second diplomat said that “negotiations are ongoing and the main problem is still surrounding fishing … and neither side appears to want to stop the negotiations.”
