Riviera Maya Hotel Association re-elects Toni Chaves as president

Cancun, QR. The Hotel Association of the Riviera Maya (AHRM) re-elected Toni Chaves as president of this group for the period 2022-2024.

In the organization’s Extraordinary General Assembly, the associates of one of the largest hotel groups in Mexico voted unanimously for the businessman of Spanish origin to continue for two more years at the head of this association that brings together more than 140 hotels with a of more than 55,000 rooms in the tourist corridor of the Mayan Riviera.

AHRM associates felt that Toni Chaves carried out an excellent job during the most difficult time of the Covid-19 pandemic to promote the application of security protocols among associates and maintain close collaboration with the authorities of the three levels of government, to safeguard sources of employment and promote the image of the Riviera Maya as a safe and reliable destination.

The hotel union also recognized that its leadership allowed for a common front to defend the interests of the destination in the section of Section 5 of the Mayan Train, promote the regularization of vacation rentals, the reinforcement of public security with its active participation in the Roundtables of Security organized by the three levels of government as well as in the punctual follow-up in all those subjects that benefit or affect the associates and the destination.

They highlighted that also during Toni Chaves’ administration, hotel staff training issues were promoted, promotion was strengthened hand in hand with the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (CPTQ) and a historic carbon neutral program was implemented to reduce polluting emissions generated in the destination.

Toni Chaves He thanked the members for their support to have today a stronger and more united association than ever and promised to continue working in this new period to achieve better conditions so that the hotel industry in the Riviera Maya continues to be a benchmark for tourism in Mexico.

The hotel leader acknowledged that there are still many challenges ahead, among which are creating a link with the new state authorities and requesting compliance with the agreements made to the sector during the electoral campaign, reinforcing promotion with the CPTQimprove the safety of the destination, promote and strengthen the relationship between associations and improve the conditions of the federal highway due to the problem of sinkholes and the unfinished works of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) in the center of Playa del Carmen .

In the same way, he mentioned that other pending issues are promoting the relationship between small hotels, getting the Riviera Maya be a Carbon Neutral Footprint destination and advance in the fight against sargassum with The Seas We Love program.

“I am sure that with the joint work of the entire Board of Directors, vice presidents, members and all of us who make up the association, we will be able to overcome the present challenges and reach the goal of having an increasingly stronger and consolidated destination,” he pointed out.
