SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) – A Roanoke man has been arrested in connection to a woman’s death Saturday, December 28.
Salem Police Department received a call for help at 8:36 p.m. in reference to an accident with injuries at a restaurant parking lot on the 1800 block of West Main Street. Officers and rescue personnel found a woman with life-threatening injuries, according to Salem Police.
The woman, Ashley Marie Gearhart, 32 of Roanoke, was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Jeremy Christopher Williams, 30 of Roanoke, was charged with second degree murder after he allegedly hit and killed Gearhart with his truck, according to police. Williams did not attempt to leave the scene of the crime, according to police. He is being held in the Salem-Roanoke County Jail without bond.
Police say Williams and Gearhart had been in a relationship.
This is the second fatality in Salem of 2024, according to police.
This incident remains under investigation.
