Rosario Piedra will present a proposal for a bill to transform the CNDH into an ombudsman

The president of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), Rosario Piedra Ibarra, announced that she will promote a reform before the Chamber of Congress so that said autonomous body becomes the Ombudsman’s Office.

When submitting her 2022 work report before the last session of the Permanent Commission, the head of the CNDH pointed out that along with her report “I am submitting to the Chamber of Deputies and tomorrow I will submit to the Senate, a proposal for a bill to reform to the CNDH and elevate it to the rank of Ombudsman, overcoming the neoliberal scheme that we inherited, and appealing to the best of our humanist tradition”.

Piedra Ibarra added that the purpose of the proposal is to generate new enforceability mechanisms that ensure the validity of human rights in the country, and that these are respected, observed and repaired.

Previously, the president of the Commission assured that the body under her charge has been transformed over 3 years with new and better rules in which corruption does not fit.

In addition to maintaining that the only priority of the agency is the victims, exercising public resources responsibly and strengthening institutional commitment.

This by explaining that in the last two years response times to complaints have decreased. He stresses that in 2022, 302 recommendations were received, of which 264 were ordinary and 36 for serious violations. Likewise, he mentions that in this exercise all the norms issued by the Congress of the Union were reviewed in order to locate those that could violate human rights.

While he stressed that, so far in his administration, 2,434 files have been received and in 2022 1,005 victims or relatives of disappearance victims were attended.

In her final speech, the head of the CNDH warned that she will not give up on continuing with the good results that the Commission has achieved.

And he points out that he will not accept that speeches be exposed to the detriment of the pacification strategy of the Federal Government; and, he assures that he will continue to watch over the defense and protection of human rights in the country.
