The press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry announced that dozens of miners have been rescued after a collapse in a coal mine in the Novokuznetsk region in the central Kuzbass basin.
A statement by the ministry stated that “information was received about the collapse of rocks in the” Jubiliana “mine, where 98 people were working, and more than 83 of them were brought to the surface.
The ministry indicated that rescue operations are still continuing, with 24 specialists from the ministry working at the site, in addition to 5 special mechanisms.
A source in the ministry stated that “according to preliminary information, one person was killed in the accident,” stressing that all those who were rescued were unharmed.
He added, “According to preliminary data, the vital mine systems are operating normally.”
The Yubilinaya mine is located in the Novokuznetsk region and produces coke, cast iron and steel.
