Sources in the Russian shipbuilding industry announced that the country’s experts are continuing to complete the construction of a new nuclear icebreaker.
A statement issued by the press service of the Russian “Baltic” Shipbuilding Factory said, “The work of forming the upper deck of the Ural nuclear icebreaker, which is being developed by Russia within the framework of the government project No. 22220, has recently been completed, and within the framework of these works, a large chimney has been installed on the deck of the ship with a mass of 19 tons.” An air purifier weighing 51 tons has also been installed, and special cooling tanks for emergency cases.
The statement added, “In the next stage of the ship’s development, it is supposed to be equipped with the necessary equipment for the work and accommodation departments of the crew who will work on board.”
Ural is the third nuclear icebreaker developed by Russia within the framework of the government project No. 22220, and work on its construction began in July 2016, and it was lowered into the water for the first time in May 2019.

The length of this ship is 173.3 meters, its width is 34 meters, its height is 15.2 meters, and the amount of water displacement is equivalent to 33,500 tons, and it can sail in areas covered with ice with a thickness of 2.8 meters.
