The Russian national team defeated its hosts Maltese 3-1 in the match that brought them together on Wednesday in the opening round of Group H of European qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Artyom Dziuba, Mario Fernandez and Alexander Sobolev took turns to score in the 23rd, 35th and 90th minutes, respectively, while Joseph Mbong’s only goal was scored in the 56th minute of the match.

With this victory, the Russian team collected the three match points and rose to first place in Group H, ahead of Slovenia, who in turn beat Croatia, the runners-up of the World Cup Russia 2018 with a goal without a response.
