Russia registered this Friday a new record of new daily cases of Covid-19, at a time when the authorities warned of the impact of the new Omicron variant.
The Russian government reported 49,513 new cases of Covid-19 in Russia, a record since the start of the pandemic, which breaks the previous mark of 41,335 cases registered in November.
Infections are on the rise in recent days, which projects that the country faces a strong wave.
Last week the president, Vladimir Putin, warned that the country had two weeks to prepare for the blow of the arrival of the Omicron variant, calling for accelerated vaccination and testing.
In Russia, only half of the population is fully vaccinated, despite statements by the authorities claiming the protection provided by the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.
This vaccine is still not approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) due to discrepancies on the data that Moscow must provide.
