The Russian Ministry of Defense has warned NATO that its ongoing provocative activities on Russia’s borders could lead to dangerous incidents.
“The year 2020 witnessed a significant increase in the intensity of NATO’s aviation and naval military forces, and there are increasing cases that may lead to serious accidents,” Major-General Alexander Fomin, Deputy Russian Defense Minister, said in an interview with “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” newspaper.
Fomin recalled that, prior to the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the combined forces of NATO carried out exercises for a group of warships in the waters of the Barents Sea, and in August more than 15 flights of US fighters of the “B-52H” and “B” were detected. -1B “is in direct proximity to the borders of Russia.
He added that, in addition to that, the British “Dragon” destroyer, on October 13, 2020, carried out a passage through the waters of Russia in the region of Cape Chersones, and the American destroyer “John McCain” entered on November 24, 2020, to Peter’s Great Bay.
Fomin stressed, “These actions carried a blatantly provocative character. Accidents were avoided only thanks to the high level of professionalism of Russian pilots and sailors.”
He expressed his conviction that dialogue with Russia from a position of strength is useless, saying: “The threat to use force represents a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, and such measures will not remain without an appropriate response from us.”
He concluded by saying, “We have always proceeded from the point that the most difficult problems must be solved around the negotiating table. We are ready for a constructive and professional dialogue while adhering to the principles of mutual respect and taking each other’s interests into consideration.”
