The Russian ambassador to London, Andrei Killin, said that political relations between Russia and Britain are considered “practically dead,” noting that the relations are mainly limited to economic and cultural cooperation.
The Russian ambassador added in an interview with the British radio station “LBC” that “the British government has undermined the bulk of our relations, and we maintain them mainly in the economic and cultural fields … As for the political level, it is practically dead.”
Killin explained that London had chosen an “hostile approach” to Russia, and indicated that it was mainly focused on the allegations against Russia of human rights violations.
The Russian diplomat considered that such a position is not constructive, because “there is no single country in which there are no cases of human rights violations,” explaining that “each country has its own problems and methods, and that human rights are a complex field, but this issue is related to state sovereignty.”
Speaking about the contradiction in the accusations directed against Russia by Britain, he cited the case of the founder of “WikiLeaks”, Julian Assange, indicating that the latter was arrested by the British police for violating the conditions of bail and subsequently tried on this charge, which is very similar to the situation with (Alexey) Navalny.
