Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko announced that the supply of “Zircon” hypersonic missiles to the Russian army will begin in 2022.
In a statement to the Russian Defense Ministry’s “Red Star” newspaper, the deputy minister said, “The tests of missile systems equipped with the” Zircon “winged missile are being carried out successfully.
He explained that, “In 2020, several successful launches of Zircon missiles were carried out from the Admiral Gorshkov frigate, and supplies will start from 2022.”
He also noted the continued purchases of anti-ship winged missiles from “Onyx” systems and “Caliber” winged missiles launched from ships.
It is noteworthy that the “Zirkun” missile is capable of hitting marine and land targets over a range of more than a thousand kilometers, and its speed reaches Mach 9. The missile tests began in 2015.
