Australia’s biggest health department has been targeted by Russian hackers who already attacked international companies including the US Government.
NSW Health was last week targeted by the Russian SolarWinds cyber attack but insisted there was no evidence of a breach in privacy.
‘To date, there has been no evidence found that NSW Health systems have been compromised and no evidence that there has been any breach of patient information,’ it said.
‘eHealth NSW can confirm that it has received the necessary updates from the vendor to ensure ongoing protection of its services.’

Almost 18,000 customers and businesses were affected by the hackers who installed a malicious code into a compromised version of SolarWinds known as Orion.
This allowed hackers to gain access to the users computer system, files and passwords.
Mining giant Rio Tinto and Secro Asia Pacific, which hold sensitive information about prisoners and government contracts in Australia, were also targeted last week.
Secro Asia Pacific said they immediately shut down their servers with SolarWind after being informed by the Australian Cyber Security Centre.
‘[Serco Asia Pacific] will keep them offline until we are satisfied that an effective and safe version is available,’ the company told The Australian.
‘A full security review of logs and other internal investigations was undertaken and we have not found evidence of data or systems outside the Orion system being compromised, either internal Serco or customer related.’
It was also announced that US Government organisations such as the Department of State, the National Nuclear Security Administration, Homeland Security, Commerce and the treasury were attacked by SolarWind.
Large tech companies including Microsoft, Cisco and Intel were also targeted.
