In the next round, Medvedev will face Italian Yannick Senir, the winner of his turn over French Hugo Gaston, with two clean sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Medvedev, who is third in the world tennis professional rankings, has ensured that he snatched second place from Spain’s Rafael Nadal when he releases the new classification next Monday, and he will become the first player from outside the quartet consisting of Nadal, Serbian Novak Djokovic (currently number one), Swiss Roger Federer and Britain’s Andy Murray to occupy the center.
