Ryan Seacrest shared an emotional update on his father’s health, revealing that his dad, Gary Seacrest, is battling prostate cancer.
During a recent episode of his radio show, “On Air with Ryan Seacrest,” the host detailed a frightening health scare that compounded his family’s struggle. Seacrest recounted receiving a frantic phone call from his sister during a taping of American Idol, urging him to fly to Atlanta immediately. His father had been hospitalized with a severe case of pneumonia on top of his ongoing cancer treatments.
He described feeling “robotic” as he finished the show before rushing to his father’s side. “I’ve never seen my strong, very smart father with the look on his face that he had,” Seacrest said, recalling the vulnerability he witnessed in the ICU as his father looked to him for guidance on medical decisions.
While the experience was harrowing, Seacrest also shared a hopeful turn. After recovering from pneumonia, his father had a simple wish for his upcoming birthday: to get out of the house and see the water.
Seacrest became emotional as he described receiving a photo of his parents, who have been married for 55 years, sitting together at the beach. “They just want to look at the water. They can’t do much,” he shared.
He emphasized that while the pneumonia has cleared, the fight against cancer continues. “His cancer is not [gone], and so we have to go back into another treatment and fight this cancer,” Seacrest explained. “It is just… it’s difficult. The treatments suck.”
Despite the challenges, Seacrest expressed optimism, stating, “I know he’s going to get through this.” The candid revelation prompted an outpouring of support from fans and listeners on social media. Many shared their own experiences with cancer and sent messages of prayer and encouragement to the Seacrest family.
