Former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, who is being prosecuted in his homeland in a number of criminal cases, offered his country’s authorities to allow him to return for a period of 24 hours, “to determine the population’s reaction.”
Saakashvili said in a TV interview, “Let’s do an investigative experiment. Let me enter the country, for 24 hours and allow me to go out into the street, I swear to you I will walk around without escort. People should be given the opportunity to express their opinions freely.”
Saakashvili stressed that once he set foot in Georgian territory, it will become clear that the level of support for the current authorities – 5%, and the public support for the former president, 70-75%.
According to him, Georgian officials visited Ukraine more than once, and asked local authorities not to extradite him to Tbilisi.
