Said Bouteflika announced, on Saturday, during his trial by the military judiciary in the capital, Algiers, that his brother, former Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, is under house arrest and is not free as he believes.
Said Bouteflika told the judge and those present in the courtroom during his speech that lasted for about two minutes that Abdelaziz Bouteflika is “under house arrest and his brother (ie Said) is in prison … I say it under house arrest and his brother is in prison, unfairly and arbitrarily in fabricated and fake cases … The Algerian newspaper “El Khabar” that attended the trial proceedings.
It should be noted that the military judiciary acquitted both General Tawfiq Meddin, the former head of the powerful intelligence service, and his assistant, General Othman Tartag, called Bashir Tartag, Said Bouteflika, brother of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his advisor, and the Secretary General of the Labor Party, Louiza Hanoune, of the charge of conspiring against the army and the state . However, the release was only decided for General Tawfiq and Louiza Hanoune, and Said Bouteflika and Othman Tartag were kept in prison in other cases.
