Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's top scorer, posted a picture on his official Instagram account of a black and white Christmas tree and accompanied it with a comment about “the brutal war, death and destruction in Gaza.”
“Christmas is a time when families come together and celebrate,” Salah wrote. “With the brutal war continuing in the Middle East, especially the death and destruction in Gaza, this year we celebrate Christmas with very heavy hearts and share the pain of those families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones. Please don’t Forget about them (the families in Gaza) and do not get used to their suffering. Merry Christmas.”
On October 18, Salah said about the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip – which took place 80 days ago – that “what we saw in (Al-Maamdani) Hospital was terrifying,” demanding that humanitarian aid be brought into the Gaza Strip “immediately.”
In a brief video clip that he posted on all his accounts and pages on social media, which is the first reaction from one of the most influential and famous Arab and Muslim players in the world, the captain of the Egyptian national team said, in English, “It is not always easy to talk at such a difficult time, as there are many… “From violence. All lives must be protected.”
He continued, “What is clear now is that humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach Gaza immediately. The people there are in terrifying conditions. What we saw in the hospital was terrifying.”
Salah will lead the Reds, who are in second place, in their match – tomorrow, Tuesday – with Burnley, who are in penultimate place, and who beat Fulham 2-0 in their last league match to move away from the bottom of the standings.
