Salaries in technology jobs grew 15% in 2021: Hireline

The supply of technology jobs in Mexico increased by 88% during 2021, according to Hireline (formerly Empleos TI), a job exchange specialized in the Information and Communications Technology sector. Four out of 10 job offers in technology are established in Mexico City, while a quarter of the vacancies are in home office format.

The companies offered 7,443 jobs in Hireline during 2020, while the vacancies in 2021 were 13,999, that is, almost double that of a year before. Most of these offers (38.35%) involve working in Mexico City, while 23.5% of jobs can be carried out from home, in the home office mode.

The almost 100% increase in the number of offers between 2020 and 2021 was due, according to Emmanuel Olvera, director and founder of Hireline, mainly due to the digital transformation that companies were forced to attend due to the covid-19 pandemic. This transformation caused more and more businesses ─and not just the big technology companies─ to start hiring ICT specialists.

“One of these cases is HSBC, for example, which has 200 vacancies in Hireline, but there is also the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Liverpool, Invex, Coppel. We are serving clients from other lines of business,” said Olvera, who predicts that the growth in the number of technology offers will continue during 2022.

Skills

The technology skills most in demand by businesses continue to be the Java and .Net open source software frameworks. It is followed by the Python programming language, which in recent years has become very popular among developers in conjunction with managing cloud services. AWS and Azurefrom Amazon and Microsoft, respectively.

On the other hand, the skills that grew the most in demand during 2021 were the Go programming language, created by Google, along with Kubernetes technology and digital marketing.

Salary

The average salaries with which job offers are advertised on Hireline reached 30,247 pesos per month, that is, 14.81% more than the 26,346 average monthly pesos during 2020, in line with the 15% increase that the minimum wage experienced during the 2021.

Because it is one of the languages ​​whose demand is growing most rapidly, those who program in Go language can expect to get a salary of at least 42,762 pesos, that is, an increase of almost 30% of the salary amount in a single year. . Other languages ​​that are also well paid is the old Cobol language.

“It is important to point out that the supply-demand relationship between the best paid programming language and the availability of specialized professionals has a collateral effect. In this sense, it could be deduced that the programming languages ​​that are in greater demand in the future could be exposed to a salary decrease”, according to Hireline.

The information in the TI 2022 Labor Market Report is based on a digital survey shared by email to the 275,000 Hireline users, as well as the platform’s 170,000 social media followers.
