South Korea’s Samsung C&T said it won a contract worth 1.9 trillion won from Qatar Petroleum.
The South Korean company will set up facilities for storing and loading liquefied natural gas in the North Field expansion project.
The North Field is located off the northeast coast of Qatar and covers an area of more than 6,000 square kilometers.
Qatar Petroleum announced the award of a major engineering, supply and construction contract to Samsung Construction and Trade to expand the storage and loading facilities for liquefied natural gas located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, in favor of the Northeast Field Expansion Project.
The contract was signed by Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Managing Director and CEO of Qatar Petroleum, and Oh Se Chol, President and CEO of Samsung Construction and Trade Group, during a special ceremony held today at Qatar Petroleum headquarters in the presence of a number of senior officials in Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Gas.
This contract, the total value of which exceeds 7 billion Qatari riyals (including optional works), is the second onshore contract to be awarded as part of the Northeast Field Expansion Project. On February 8, 2021, Qatar Petroleum awarded the engineering, supply and construction works contract. , To establish four giant LNG production lines with associated processing facilities for the Chiyoda and Technip consortium.
These two contracts are the culmination of the preliminary engineering and design work that began in early 2018, and upon completion of their implementation, the Northeast Field Project will raise Qatar’s LNG production capacity from 77 million to 110 million tons annually.
The second phase of the planned expansion, the North South Field Project, will also increase the production capacity of LNG from 110 million to 126 million tons per year by 2027.
