The rivalry between TNA World Champion Trick Williams and challenger Mike Santana escalated at TNA Victory Road on September 26, when Williams orchestrated a calculated post-match assault on his future opponent.
The attack occurred following Santana’s hard-fought victory over NXT powerhouse Ridge Holland. Williams had earlier brokered a deal with Holland, promising a future title opportunity in exchange for taking Santana out of action. During their match, Holland utilized his signature power offense, at one point absorbing a superplex attempt and countering it into a massive powerslam. Ultimately, Santana’s resilience proved superior, and he secured the win after hitting his “Spin the Block” discus lariat.
Immediately after the bell, Williams’ entrance music played. As Santana braced for an attack from the entrance ramp, he correctly anticipated an ambush from behind and turned to confront the champion. However, a timely distraction from Holland, who grabbed Santana’s foot, allowed Williams to gain the upper hand. The champion then blasted Santana with the TNA World Championship belt and stood over his fallen challenger, posing with a foot on his chest.
This attack intensifies the conflict as the two men head toward their scheduled championship showdown at Bound For Glory on October 12.
