Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced his readiness to go to the European Court of Human Rights to prove his innocence, after he was indicted on corruption charges by the French judiciary on Monday.
In a statement to the French newspaper “Le Figaro”, Sarkozy said: “I have appealed the (judicial) decision, and perhaps I will have to continue this battle until the European Court of Human Rights.”
He added, “It would be painful for me to have to condemn my country, but I am ready for that because this will be the price of democracy.”
He indicated that he would not run for the presidency in 2022, but he would announce the support of a candidate at the appropriate time.
