The Saudi “Masam” project for clearing mines in Yemen announced today, Sunday, that it managed to remove 1,567 mines, explosive devices and unexploded ammunition during the first week of this January.
According to a statement issued by Masam, the dismantled mines included 201 anti-personnel mines, 130 anti-tank mines, 1,217 unexploded ordnance and 19 explosive devices.
The statement added, “The total of what has been extracted since the beginning of the project so far has reached 210,072 mines that the Houthi group planted in lands, schools and homes in Yemen, killing a large number of innocent people of all ages.”
The Masam project, which the Yemeni government signed with a number of companies specialized in mine clearance in June 2018, aims to clear Yemeni lands, which are under the control of government forces, of landmines and unexploded ordnance.
