Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday announced 100% localization of vehicle steering activity, by limiting work to Saudis.
The Saudi Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Transport Authority, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, said that the decision was taken to enhance job opportunities for Saudis, after they achieved successes in the field in which the percentage of foreign workers decreased to only 4%.
Al-Jasser added that the authority has taken many measures to enhance job opportunities for Saudis and women in this activity, most notably the amendment of the traffic system to allow private vehicles to operate.
The Saudi Press Agency, quoting Al-Jasser, said that an agreement had been signed with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and the Human Resources Fund “to support Saudis with 40% of income, not exceeding 2,400 for those who perform certain trips at peak time.”
