Kyle Schwarber has taken sole possession of the National League home run lead in commanding fashion.
During the Philadelphia Phillies’ game against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night, Schwarber connected with a 93 mph fastball from Cade Povich. The ball rocketed off his bat at 110.9 mph and traveled an estimated 427 feet, landing deep in the third deck of Citizens Bank Park.
The homer, Schwarber’s 39th of the season, broke a tie with Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani for the top spot in the NL. The blast also tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning, aiding the Phillies’ effort to strengthen their hold on first place in the NL East.
The race for the league’s home run crown recently narrowed after the Arizona Diamondbacks traded Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners, moving him to the American League.
