A group of American scientists said that they were able to explain the cases of misdiagnosis of Covid-19 infection, in some patients.
The scientists added, in an article published in the journal Science, that the genetic material of the coronavirus is, most likely, partially integrated into the chromosomes of human cells.
A group of researchers, which included specialists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, tried to answer the question – why do some people who have been infected with the emerging coronavirus and have recovered from it, the new tests give a positive result, although in reality they no longer have the disease.
The scientists believe that one explanation may lie in that part of the genetic code of the virus integrates with the chromosomes in human cells. According to the study authors, this occurs with other viruses.
The magazine notes that “all viruses inject their genetic material into the cell they infect, but this material usually remains separate from the cell’s DNA.”
The article says, that scientists partially recreated this penetration of the genetic material of the Corona virus into the chromosome of the human cell under laboratory conditions.
The article added: “Scientists confirm that the results they obtained do not mean that SARS-CoV-2 remains permanently at the genetic level in human cells, to be constantly reproduced, as the AIDS virus does.”
