FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Rapper Sean Kingston is facing sentencing in South Florida this Friday following his conviction in a $1 million fraud scheme.
Kingston, 35, whose legal name is Kisean Paul Anderson, and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted in March of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four related counts. While a judge sentenced Turner last month to five years in prison, Kingston’s sentencing was rescheduled.
The pair was arrested in May 2024 after a SWAT team raided Kingston’s rented mansion in suburban Fort Lauderdale. Turner was taken into custody at the residence, while Kingston was arrested at Fort Irwin, a California Army base where he was performing.
According to court records, between April 2023 and March 2024, Kingston used his social media presence to acquire high-end merchandise, including a bulletproof Escalade, luxury watches, and a 19-foot LED television. Investigators said Kingston would promise vendors social media promotion and then, along with his mother, provide fake wire transfer receipts as payment.
When the funds never arrived, victims were reportedly ignored until they filed lawsuits or contacted law enforcement.
Kingston achieved international fame at age 17 with his 2007 hit song “Beautiful Girls,” which incorporated Ben E. King’s classic “Stand By Me.”
