The search for missing mother Kobie Parfitt has taken a grim turn after police found remains in a mineshaft believed to belong to her.

The 43-year-old was last seen on April 28, and her disappearance was being treated by detectives as a suspected murder.

On Tuesday afternoon officers from the Missing Person Squad and Search and Rescue Squad found the human remains in bushland in Snake Valley, 30km southwest of Ballarat.

The officers had been scouring the remote area for clues into the mother-of-four and grandmother-of-three’s disappearance.

The remains had yet to be formally identified, police said according to the Herald Sun.

Detectives questioned a 31-year-old woman on Wednesday in relation to the case, but no charges were laid and she was released.

Ms Parfitt’s bank account and phone have not been used or accessed since she went missing eight months ago.

During a public plea for information in November, Ms Parfitt’s mother Kathy Snowball described her as a ‘beautiful person who lost her way’.

‘I just hope that someone out there that knows something can please stop this nightmare that we’re living,’ she said.

‘So that we can tell her kids move forward, put her to rest, and so we can just remember the beautiful person that she was.’

It was revealed by police last month that Ms Parfitt was last seen alive at a house in Ballarat on April 28, the same day police believe she was killed.

Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said it was ‘only a matter of time’ before police find people in the community who have information on what happened to Ms Parfitt.
