(Trends Wide) — Houston police are searching for a suspect after three officers were shot and wounded Thursday.
“The suspect fled the scene in a white Mercedes and is currently being sought,” the police tweeted.
The officers were taken to a hospital. A second tweet It read: “Our three injured officers are in stable condition.”
Trends Wide affiliate KTRK exclusively acquired a video that appears to show the beginning of the shooting. The station reported that the video comes from a surveillance camera and shows a Dodge sports car colliding while attempting to make a left turn. A police van slows to a stop behind the car and a police officer gets out, pointing a gun at the car as the officer seeks cover.
Two other policemen emerge from another vehicle and run towards the patrol car as shots are heard. There appears to be a person at the open driver’s door of the suspect vehicle.
After the volley of gunfire, the policemen run past the car in pursuit.
A community affairs representative told Trends Wide by phone that no further details were available at this time about the circumstances of the shooting.
Stephen Hinson told Trends Wide affiliate KHOU that he thought he heard “some kind of crash” and then what he estimated was 50 shots.
“I looked out the window and I saw the officers running and I realized there was a police officer right in front of my house.”
The shooting comes four days after Cpl. Charles Galloway of the Harris County Police Precinct 5 was fatally shot during a traffic stop. A suspect in that case was arrested in Mexico and returned to the Houston area Wednesday night.
