In a major consumer safety alert, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of approximately five million above-ground swimming pools manufactured by Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup. The recall, which targets pools 48 inches and taller, has been issued due to a serious drowning hazard.
Tragically, nine deaths have been reported in connection with the recalled pools, prompting the CPSC to take immediate action alongside the manufacturers. The affected products have been sold nationwide since 2002, making this one of the largest recalls of its kind in recent years.
The CPSC warns that these taller above-ground pools pose a significant risk of drowning, particularly to young children who may gain unsupervised access.
Consumers who own an above-ground pool from Bestway, Intex, or Polygroup that is 48 inches or taller are urged to immediately contact the respective manufacturer for information on a remedy. Further details regarding specific model numbers and the corrective actions available can be found on the official CPSC website.
