Sedesu projects that the AIQ closes the year with 1.2 million passengers

Queretaro, Qro. The Queretaro International Airport (AIQ) could close the year with 1.2 million passengers, which would recover the indicators of 2019, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, estimated the Secretary of Sustainable Development (Sedesu), Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero.

From January to October 2022, the AIQ mobilized 914,514 travelers, a figure that still shows a distance of 5% in relation to the 963,266 passengers in the same period of 2019, reports the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).

However, the accumulated from January to October of this year represents an increase of 42.5% compared to the 641,698 passengers in the same period of 2021.

Thus, the total number of travelers received this year at the Queretaro International Airport they represent 77.8% of the total passengers in 2019, a year that closed with 1 million 175,000 people.

“As of October we have already reached one million passengers, we are estimating that probably by the end of this year we will conclude at 1 million 200,000 passengers,” added the head of Sedesu, Marco Antonio del Prete.

Faced with the recovery of air operations, Marco Antonio del Prete explained that some airlines have plans to increase their presence from the airport of Queretarowhich are added to those of those companies that have reestablished their routes.

An important point is that Aeroméxico has already announced that it is resuming flights to Monterrey; we will be increasing frequencies in some others (destinations). Viva Aerobús also increases frequencies, Volaris also increases frequencies, ”he said.

The return of an airline that will operate again from the AIQ is also forecast, an announcement that will be made official in December.

Meanwhile, one or two air operations could be incorporated that connect the airport with Mexico City, with which the Queretaro International Airport will add between six and seven flights to the capital of the country.

Among the growth plans of the airport is to link up with the main hubs of the country, with the purpose of interconnecting the state with various national and international destinations.

“We are going to have more flights from Querétaro to Monterrey, let’s remember that Monterrey is an Aeroméxico hub, so with this logic of promoting hubs such as Monterrey, Guadalajara, Cancún, Mexico City; Take advantage of the regional flights, which is the one from Querétaro-Monterrey and from Monterrey, you can connect to Madrid or other entities ”, he highlighted.

Before the end of the year, December is expected to contribute to the dynamics of the AIQdriven by both business tourism and leisure tourism.

With the total number of passengers mobilized in the first 10 months of the year, an average of 91,451 passengers per month have been transferred at the airport, based on statistics from the SICT.
