Senator Claudia Ruiz Massieu meets with Concanaco-Servytur

Senator Claudia Ruiz Massieu met with members of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (CONCANACO-SERVYTUR) in the framework of the meeting of its advisory council to present their vision of Mexico today and the prospects before the adverse panorama facing the national economy derived from the internal and external risks that are faced.

During his presentation, he recognized the important role of the tertiary sector as the backbone of the national economy, by contributing to economic growth, business productivity and increasing people’s capabilities. For this reason, he emphasized the importance of opening these spaces for dialogue with the business community.

He stressed that Mexico is facing a global context in which adverse economic trends prevail as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war, the economic crisis resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, and the economic slowdown in the United States. He explained that although, Our country has faced other challenges of great importance, consolidating itself as a reliable country, today this prestige is at risk due to a political project that systematically violates the rule of law, concentrates power and closes itself to dialogue.

He affirmed that the Federal Government is determined to undermine its relations both abroad and within, as well as determined to weaken the institutions that guarantee the stability of democracy in Mexico, an essential requirement to give certainty to the generation of goods and trade. He indicated that the preservation of the counterweights and the defense of the institutions that sustain democracy must be a priority.

He recalled that the current federal administration has made public policy decisions that have affected the productive sector, such as the elimination of the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico, the cancellation of large infrastructure works such as the NAIM in Texcoco or the promotion of questionable projects without technical support. He stressed that to promote the recovery of Mexico there are two non-negotiable factors: understanding that the economy is a matter of State and must be promoted with heights of vision. He gave as an example the recent consultations requested by the US and Canada within the framework of the T-MEC regarding the energy policy of the current Federal Government. The second factor consists of having the necessary conditions that favor the development of the economy in a framework of healthy and active dialogue between the government and the social sectors.

He stressed that for people to earn more, we must have more trade, more investment and more companies, which provide development opportunities for millions of Mexican men and women. He assured that in view of the climate of social tension promoted by the Federal Executive and in view of the challenges facing the country, businessmen are part of the solutions we need, for which reason he expressed his hopes that there be a more active participation of all social sectors.
