The Cameroonian national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast with a thrilling victory over its Gambian counterpart 3-2 – today, Tuesday – in the final round of the third group matches.
The Senegal team achieved the full mark by defeating its Guinean counterpart with two unanswered goals.
At Al Salam Stadium, Carl Toko Ekambi scored the lead goal for Cameroon in the 56th minute, and the Gambia national team responded with two goals scored by Able Jallow (72) and Ebrima Kole (85).
The Cameroon national team equalized the score again with an own goal scored by Gambia defender James Gomez in the 87th minute, before Christopher Waugh snatched the winning goal for Cameroon in the 91st minute.
With this victory, the Cameroon team raised its score to 4 points in second place and clinched the qualification card thanks to its superiority in goals scored over the third-placed Guinea team, which lost to Senegal with two unanswered goals.
As for the Gambia national team, it is at the bottom of the standings without a score after its third loss in a row.
The Senegal national team achieved the full mark by defeating its Guinean counterpart with two unanswered goals scored by Abdoulaye Seck in the 61st minute, and Eliman Ndiaye in the first minute of stoppage time for the match.
Senegal topped the group standings with 9 points, followed by Cameroon in second place with 4 points on goal difference, ahead of Guinea, which can still qualify for the next round among the top 4 teams that ranked third.
