Senegal defeated Cameroon 3-1 in Group C of the African Cup of Nations on Friday, ensuring qualification to the quarter-finals of the continental tournament held in Ivory Coast.
Coach Aliou Cisse’s team topped the group standings with 6 points from two victories, while Cameroon stagnated at one point in third place before facing second-placed Guinea with the same points and bottom-placed Gambia later today.
After Senegal’s almost absolute control, the pressure resulted in the first goal in the 16th minute, with a shot from Ismaila Sarr hitting Cameroon’s net.
Habib Diallo doubled the lead for Senegal in the 71st minute after receiving a low cross from Sarr.
Jean-Charles Castelletto reduced the gap for the “Untamed Lions” team in the 83rd minute.
Sadio Mane ended Cameroon’s hopes of a comeback by scoring the third goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
