The White House announced that senior officials from the United States and Israel discussed concerns about Iran in the first hypothetical meeting of a strategic bilateral group.
“The US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, and his Israeli counterpart, Meir Ben Shabat, were at the head of the delegations of the two countries,” said Emily Horne, spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council.
She added, “The two sides exchanged views during discussions on regional security issues of common interest and concerns, including the issue of Iran, and they expressed a common determination to address the challenges and threats facing the region.”
She noted that “the two sides р agreed to continue the dialogue in the future.”
The administration of US President Joe Biden portrayed the meeting as part of its efforts to consult with allies and partners as it sought to lure Iran into talks on the return of Tehran and Washington to abide by the nuclear agreement signed in 2015.
