A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with rape.
Personal computer Rupert Edwards, connected to the South West Standard Command Device, was arrested on suspicion of rape on Monday, 5 September. He was bailed and suspended from duty.
On Thursday, 8 December, he was further more arrested on suspicion of rape. On Friday, 9 December, was billed with two counts of rape.
He is owing to look in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Courtroom on Friday, 9 December.
Commander Jon Savell, in charge of the Met’s professionalism command, claimed: ‘This news is deeply stressing and I recognise the issue it will cause the community and other law enforcement officers.
‘We took immediate motion to suspend Personal computer Edwards from responsibility when he was first arrested in September.
‘Legal proceedings are now energetic and it is critical that I do not remark though that procedure takes place.’
The charges relate to two girls aged in their 20s and 30s. They are remaining supported by specifically qualified officers.
The offences are alleged to have transpired in Lambeth on Friday, 26 August, and in Surrey on Monday, 5 September, though the officer was off-duty.
The Met’s Directorate of Expert Standards and the Independent Place of work for Law enforcement Carry out have been educated.
