This came during Shamkhani’s meeting with the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, who is visiting Tehran, a day after an American strike on Iranian-backed Iraqi factions in Syria.
“The American strikes begin a new era for organized terrorism in the region,” Ali Shamkhani said, stressing that “Iran and its allies who are facing terrorism will not allow the revival of takfiri terrorism again in the region.”
He added, “Iran will face American plans to revive terrorism in the region,” stressing that “the American raids in eastern Syria are a brutal act, and that the delay in the exit of foreign forces from Iraq in accordance with the decision of the Iraqi parliament feeds tension in the region and increases crises in it.”
He continued, “We affirm the need for cooperation between the countries of the region to reduce tension, and stress the conduct of discussions between their countries to end the current crises.”
For his part, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said: “Security and stability are the basis of economic development and prosperity, and for a country like Iraq, which has been fighting terrorism and insecurity for years, establishing security is its first priority.”
And Syrian state television announced that the American attack at dawn yesterday, Friday, targeted several areas in eastern Syria on the border with Iraq.
This comes after the Pentagon confirmed that “American fighters launched several raids on Iranian-backed militias in eastern Syria in response to the recent attacks against American employees in Iraq.” The US Defense Department added that “the strikes destroyed several facilities at a border control point used by Iranian-backed militant groups. “.
