Shaquille O’Neal has revealed that he’s lost weight over the summer, trimming down to 351 pounds, although the basketball star insists that his journey to getting fit isn’t quite just done yet.
The Los Angeles Lakers legend told Entertainment Tonight that he’s lost a whopping 55 pounds, as of late, which is only six more pounds than when he won his first NBA championship with Kobe Bryant in 2000.
‘I’m probably gonna get between 315 and 330,’ Shaq said, adding that he sets ‘crazy goals’ for himself while also poking fun at his NBA on TNT colleague, Charles Barkley, who he calls ‘fat’.
‘I was getting chubby and couldn’t even walk up the stairs. I didn’t like the way I looked in the mirror. I was like, ”I’m gonna lose 20” and then I was trying to lose 20,’ Shaq further said.
The 51-year-old is also going through a drastic diet change, joking that he currently owns a ‘little 4.9 pack’ but that his ultimate goal is to get ‘an eight pack.’

Back in December, Shaq revealed that he wants to make his health a priority and had lost 40 pounds at that point, with a desire to shed more weight after getting some revealing blood work back, which led him to wanting to be leaner over the next few years.
‘I got a couple people involved — it’s all about eating right,’ Shaq told ET at the time. ‘I got some blood work done, a friend of mine called me and said, ”You’re fat,” and she gave me this guy’s name, and he did some blood work, and you know, ’cause I was the athlete — I wasn’t a salad eater. I won’t pay attention to any of that. I don’ care about none of that.’
‘I didn’t know what the difference between a cab and a protein was at 50 years old, I never knew. So, he was saying you can’t do this, you can’t do that, more vegetables, my iron’s low., And once I just starting changing those certain things, it dropped.
Shaq estimates that he’s ’75 percent’ close to being in ‘ninja mode’, a.k.a being fit, although he thinks some of the supplements he used to take and shakes he used to drink contributed to his weight gain in the past.
