Sheikh Ali Muhyiddin Al-Qaradaghi was elected president International Union of Muslim Scholars By a majority of votes, during the sixth session meeting in the Qatari capital, Doha.
This came after the end of the General Assembly vote, today, Monday, where the Union announced that Sheikh Dr. Ali Mohieddin Al-Qaradaghi won the presidency of the Union with a majority of votes of 91.51%.
He explained that the voting process to elect the president of the federation and his deputies, and to elect members of the Board of Trustees, began in a Doha hotel in the presence of 651 scientists from various countries of the world.
Al-Qaradaghi said, in a blog post on his official account on the X platform, “After free elections based on a transparent vote, I was elected president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.”
He added, “I pledge to God Almighty, and by extension the Islamic nation, to be loyal to my religion, and to work as long as I live to convey God's message according to wisdom and the jurisprudence of the balance.”
On Saturday, the Union announced the launch of the sixth session of the General Assembly meeting under the slogan “We establish our religion, advance our nation, and champion our sanctities,” which concludes on January 11.

Who is Sheikh Qaradaghi?
Sheikh Ali Muhyiddin Al-Qara Daghi was born in the Qara Dagh district in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate in the province Kurdstan IraqHe obtained a university degree in Islamic law in Baghdad in 1975.
He also obtained a master’s degree in comparative jurisprudence from the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University in 1980, and obtained a doctorate in Sharia and law in the field of contracts and financial transactions from Al-Azhar University also in 1985.
Dr. Ali Al-Qaradaghi has served as Secretary-General of the Union since 2010. He is also the Chairman of the Supreme Advisory Council for Rapprochement of Sects of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Al-Qaradaghi holds the position of Vice President of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, and worked as a professor and head of the Department of Jurisprudence and Principles at the College of Sharia, Law and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, in addition to being Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Human Development in the Kurdistan Region.
It is noteworthy that the International Union of Muslim Scholars is an Islamic institution that brings together Muslim scholars from various countries of the world. It was founded in 2004 in Dublin, Ireland, by the late scholar Sheikh Yousif Al Qardawi.
The Union includes members from countries of the Islamic world and minorities and Islamic groups outside it. It is considered an institution independent of states, and has a legal personality and special financial liability.
In 2011, the Federation’s headquarters was moved to Doha, based on a decision by the Federation’s Executive Council, and the Federation is managed by the General Assembly, the Board of Trustees, the Executive Office, the Federation Presidency, and the General Secretariat.
The Union aims to be a basic legal reference in theorizing and rationalizing the civilizational project of the Muslim nation, within the framework of its peaceful coexistence with the rest of humanity.
